Meditation

One of the best ways to get your emotions and concentration under control is via meditation. Now typically, a guy like me would never be able to meditate as my mind is always thinking about my patients or new ways of healing. It used to be that meditation was done by making you sit and breathe until your mind calmed down and got you into the alpha brainwave state (complete relaxation and focus). However, that takes a heck of a lot of time, and I was never really able to sit there for more than 10 or 15 minutes.

Thus, in Adam fashion I looked at solving the problem in reverse and found a company that made special soundwave tapes which you put on your iPhone, iPod, etc. These soundwaves INDUCE the alpha state first through your headphones by making your brainwaves synchronize with those soundwaves. This then allows you to meditate as your mind is already where it needs to be. Thus, you can now sit and meditate without the racing thoughts or jitteriness of just sitting still and doing nothing. It has made a huge change in my ability to meditate, and my wife was shocked that I would go into this deep state for an hour and come out extremely serene, (not my usual baseline state), at least not in the past.

I also used these sound wave programs to study while in med school as it would focus my mind immediately and I would focus and concentrate better and absorb information more quickly and efficiently. I was not meditating per se, but was in a very relaxed, receptive alpha state which is optimal for both learning, memory as well as peace and meditative states.

I will be providing the MP3 files on a flash drive which you may load onto your MP3 Player. It is essential that you wear headphones so that the soundwaves may induce synchronization with your brainwaves. Do not operate heavy machinery or drive your car as this is very relaxing. Typically, I have patients listen for 15-30 minutes and if you can do the whole 30 minutes then great.

If you can only do 10-15 minutes, then that is fine as well. Again, just do whatever you are comfortable with.

With time you will be able to access the relaxed alpha/theta states more easily and listen for longer periods of time. My goal is just to get you on a natural process of mind body relief and not make it a chore. It’s very simple, and I would just show you how to meditatively breathe along with the soundtracks to maximize the meditative zone.
